Wholesale Shoes China: Markets, Suppliers & Buying Guide
Wholesale shoes China sourcing starts with a choice: buy existing stock, customise an existing style, or develop a new shoe. Match that route to your size assortment, order quantity and destination before comparing suppliers. A low advertised pair price is useful only when the materials, fit, packaging and delivery scope are comparable.
HunterSourcing is a China sourcing agent, not a shoe factory. We help buyers compare suppliers, coordinate samples, follow orders and arrange agreed inspection and logistics work. The written project scope should identify fees, deliverables and approval responsibilities.

1. Choose the right wholesale shoe buying route
Start with the product and assortment you can sell. Stock purchasing can suit a small trial, but available colours, sizes and replenishment may be limited. Using an existing design with your packaging creates a different order from changing the last, outsole or construction. Separate those decisions before asking for a minimum order quantity.
| Route | What you buy | Check before ordering | Key limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ready-stock wholesale | Existing shoes and available size runs | Actual stock by size/colour, condition, packaging and repeat availability | A sample does not reserve the entire assortment |
| Existing style with private label | An approved base style plus agreed logo or packaging changes | Logo method, artwork, packaging minimum and unchanged construction | Custom packaging can have a separate minimum |
| New footwear development | A specified design with new patterns, last or tooling where required | Development scope, ownership, fit trials, tooling cost and production approvals | Development and revisions must precede bulk production |
Three illustrative buyer scenarios
These scenarios explain purchase planning. Quantities are buyer inputs, not verified supplier MOQs or HunterSourcing customer results.
| Buyer | Planning brief | Calculation or decision | Main check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Independent retailer | 240 pairs across 2 colours and 6 sizes | 240 ÷ (2 × 6) = 20 pairs per size/colour if distributed equally | Check whether the supplier accepts the required size curve rather than an equal split |
| Private-label online brand | 600 pairs across 3 colours and 5 sizes | 600 ÷ (3 × 5) = 40 pairs per size/colour under an equal allocation | Approve fit, artwork and packaging before committing to the assortment |
| Distributor planning repeat orders | 1,200 pairs for a launch with a future replenishment plan | Agree which model, materials and size specifications must stay unchanged | Confirm reorder minimums, material availability and change approval |
2. Where to find wholesale shoes in China
Use a market or platform to build a shortlist, then verify the seller and the actual product. A city name, storefront, platform badge or attractive photograph does not establish factory ownership, export capability or the quality of the next batch. Confirm the legal contracting entity and the factory involved in your order.
| Location/channel | Useful starting point | Questions to resolve |
|---|---|---|
| Guangzhou shoe wholesale districts | Comparing finished styles and discussing stock assortments | Which building and counter currently carries your category? Who supplies the repeat order? |
| Jinjiang / Quanzhou, Fujian | Sports-shoe and sneaker production enquiries | Does the supplier make your construction and offer the required size range and materials? |
| Wenzhou, Zhejiang | Leather, dress and casual footwear enquiries | What is the actual upper material, finish and sole construction? |
| Dongguan, Guangdong | Footwear development and OEM production enquiries | Which factory controls sampling, tooling and production? |
| Chengdu, Sichuan | Women’s fashion footwear enquiries | Can the supplier reproduce the approved fit, heel construction and finish? |
| Alibaba, Made-in-China and 1688 | Online supplier discovery and quotation comparison | Who is the seller, which services are included, and what evidence supports each claim? |
The location overview is a starting point rather than a verified list of current stalls. Compare the market and factory/trader distinctions in JingSourcing’s footwear guide and the city profiles in WorldFirst’s footwear sourcing guide. Confirm addresses, appointments and current specialisation directly. Their promotional production totals and supplier claims are not used here as verified facts.
Factory, trading company or sourcing agent?
A specialist factory may fit repeat production of a defined style. A trader may help combine existing styles or offer a broader stock selection. A sourcing agent coordinates work on the buyer’s behalf under an agreed scope. Ask each party who holds stock, who performs manufacturing, who issues the invoice and who handles defects. For production partner selection, continue with our China shoe manufacturers guide. This page focuses on wholesale purchasing decisions rather than ranking factories as independently verified suppliers.
3. Specify materials, construction, sizing and packing
Describe what the approved shoe must be, rather than relying on a product name such as “premium sneaker”. A photograph cannot define leather grade, lining, adhesive, sole density or fit. Record measurable requirements and the sample version against which the order will be checked.
| Field | Buyer brief | Supplier confirmation |
|---|---|---|
| Product and construction | Style/model, intended use, reference sample; stitched, cemented or other construction | Exact offered construction and any proposed substitution |
| Materials | Upper, lining, insole and outsole materials; colour and finish | Material descriptions and evidence supporting leather, recycled or other claims |
| Dimensions and fit | Size system, foot measurements, width/fit and agreed tolerances | Supplier size chart, sample measurements and fit trial results |
| Weight / GSM | Pair weight with size basis; textile GSM only where relevant | Measurement method and material specification; no universal shoe GSM |
| Colour and SKU mix | Colour reference, sizes, quantities per size/colour | Minimums by style, colour, material and packaging |
| Branding | Authorised artwork, logo position and application method | Artwork proof, setup cost and approval sample |
| Packing | Individual box or agreed alternative, labels, carton layout and protection | Carton dimensions, weights, units/carton and size mapping |
| Order evidence | Approved sample, quotation version and inspection criteria | Who keeps reference samples and approves changes |
Use a fit specification, not an automatic size conversion
US, UK, European and other size labels are not interchangeable fit guarantees. Ask for the supplier’s size chart for the exact last and style, then check samples using the intended wearer group. Record foot length and width separately from in-shoe or outsole dimensions. A size label alone cannot establish comfortable fit. ISO 9407:2019 describes the Mondopoint method of footwear size designation based on defined foot measurements; it is a sizing reference, not proof that a supplier’s shoes fit your customers.
Approve a size run appropriate to the project instead of checking only a single display size. Define where and how each measurement is taken. Keep the approved chart, fit comments and tolerance decisions with the order. For slippers, open heels and flexible uppers, document the checks that differ from a structured closed shoe.

4. Compare wholesale prices, MOQ and total order cost
There is no defensible single FOB price or MOQ for all shoes in China. Compare current written offers for the same construction, material, size assortment and packaging. Ask for separate stock, logo, packaging and new-development minimums. A listing minimum may apply to one style, one colour or one carton, rather than your entire mixed order.
| Quote field | What to request | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Trial quantity | Price and availability for your actual trial size curve | A low total quantity can still create many small SKUs |
| Reorder tier | Same-specification price at a higher repeat quantity | Confirm whether the earlier last, sole, colour and packaging remain available |
| Customisation | Separate artwork, mould, tooling and packaging charges | Fixed costs can dominate a small order |
| Trade term | Named place/port, Incoterms version and included charges | An EXW offer and an FOB offer do not include the same work |
| Validity | Currency, expiry date and material or exchange-rate conditions | A historical price is not a current quotation |
Illustrative cost comparison for 600 pairs
The following USD amounts are deliberately hypothetical calculation inputs, not supplier quotations, market price ranges or a service-fee offer. Both offers assume the same 600-pair specification. Taxes and destination charges are excluded; replace every input with your written offers.
| Cost item | Offer A | Offer B |
|---|---|---|
| Pair price × 600 | $8.00 × 600 = $4,800 | $8.40 × 600 = $5,040 |
| Sample/setup charge | $180 | $60 |
| Inspection allowance | $240 | $240 |
| Freight allowance | $600 | $480 |
| Total before excluded charges | $5,820 | $5,820 |
| Cost per pair before excluded charges | $5,820 ÷ 600 = $9.70 | $5,820 ÷ 600 = $9.70 |
The example shows why a cheaper pair price can produce the same order total. Add the actual import duty, tax, brokerage, destination handling, delivery, payment fees and any rework exposure before comparing landed cost. Obtain a destination-specific classification and cost review from your importer or broker rather than copying an old tariff percentage from a blog.
5. Approve samples and define quality checks
A useful inspection checks an agreed specification and records what was found. It should not rely on “good quality” as the acceptance rule. Ask who selects samples, what is measured, how defects are classified and which decisions require buyer approval.
- Identify the exact seller, factory where relevant, model and specification version.
- Approve the reference sample, size chart, colour, artwork and packaging.
- Agree the inspection plan, lot, sampling basis, defect categories and checks.
- Record findings with model/size identifiers, measurements and photographs.
- Resolve nonconformities and confirm correction or reinspection before release.
| Area | Examples of checks | Evidence to retain |
|---|---|---|
| Fit and size | Size labels, agreed measurement points and size-run consistency | Measurements linked to specific size/model |
| Construction | Stitching, bonding, sole attachment, trims and paired appearance | Photos and agreed functional-test results |
| Materials and finish | Material identity, colour consistency, damage and finish | Approved material reference and relevant test evidence |
| Packaging | Correct sizes per carton, box labels, carton marking and protection | Carton/SKU reconciliation and packing photographs |
An AQL such as 2.5 is only one possible parameter in an agreed sampling plan. It is not a guarantee that every pair is defect-free and is not a complete plan without the lot, inspection level, defect definitions and acceptance criteria. Laboratory or performance testing may be needed beyond visual inspection. Discuss scope with our China quality inspection service.
Keep product requirements separate from supplier certificates
Ask which destination requirements apply to the actual footwear, materials, age group and intended use. A management-system certificate, social-audit record, material test report and product conformity document serve different purposes. Ordinary footwear and protective footwear should not share a generic certificate checklist. Have the responsible importer or qualified testing partner identify the applicable requirements, then match documents to the exact product and materials. Check issuer, scope and validity; do not treat an ISO logo or a generic “CE certificate” as sufficient evidence for every shoe.
6. Agree lead time, shipping, payment and defect handling
Separate sample preparation, revisions, customisation, production, inspection and transport. An available-stock order can still wait for a complete size assortment or packaging. A custom order should have clear approval dates and material readiness before a production promise is accepted. Ask how peak-season capacity, holidays and inspection failures affect the schedule.
| Stage | What to agree | Release evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Sampling and development | Sample fee, revisions, fit trial and tooling/ownership scope | Approved sample and specification version |
| Production | Start trigger, material readiness, completion target and delay reporting | Written production schedule and change approval |
| Inspection | Timing, sampling, corrective actions and reinspection responsibility | Accepted findings and buyer release decision |
| Transport | Air, sea, parcel or other route; FCL/LCL or consolidation; FBA scope where needed | Forwarder quote with origin, destination and transit definition |
| Payment | Sample payment, any deposit, balance trigger and beneficiary identity | Invoice, contract and agreed evidence before transfer |
| After-sales | Claim deadline, required evidence, remedy, costs and reorder arrangements | Written defect procedure accepted before ordering |
T/T may be proposed, but the deposit percentage and balance conditions are negotiable commercial terms, not a universal HunterSourcing policy. Verify the payment beneficiary against the contract. Keep production time separate from transit and distinguish port-to-port from door-to-door estimates. Our China logistics service can help discuss the agreed collection and dispatch scope; request current route-specific pricing and timing.
7. Prepare a useful shoe sourcing enquiry
Send the style reference, material specification, size chart or target fit, quantity by size and colour, branding, packaging, destination and required delivery date. Tell us whether you need stock comparison, private-label sampling or factory development support. This makes it easier to identify which supplier questions must be answered before a quote is comparable.
HunterSourcing’s role and project deliverables should be explicit: supplier comparison, sample coordination, order follow-up, agreed quality checks and collection planning. Confirm the fee and exclusions before work begins. Supplier claims still need evidence, and you remain responsible for approving the final product and commercial decisions. Company background is available on our About page.
Editorial responsibility: HunterSourcing sourcing team. This guide distinguishes suggested purchasing checks, cited reference information and illustrative calculations. It does not present a supplier list as independently audited, or a hypothetical scenario as a customer success story.
Wholesale shoes China FAQs
Where can I find wholesale shoes in China for a small first order?
Compare ready-stock wholesalers, footwear markets and factories against your target styles, destination and quantity. A stock route may allow a smaller mixed trial than a newly manufactured style, but availability and terms vary. Ask for current photos or samples, a written stock list and size breakdown before paying.
How do I verify a Chinese shoe supplier or factory?
Check the legal entity and payment recipient, business licence, actual production or warehouse location and product specialisation. Ask who manufactures each style, request a video walkthrough or an independent visit where appropriate, and compare a physical sample with the written specification. A marketplace badge or video alone is not proof of factory ownership or consistent quality.
What is the MOQ, and can I mix styles, colours and sizes?
Request the minimum separately for the total order, each style, colour, size run, material and printed packaging. Ready stock, existing designs with a logo and fully custom production can have different minimums. Confirm available size ratios and reorder conditions in writing; no single MOQ applies to every supplier.
How can I check shoe sizing before placing a wholesale order?
Obtain the size chart and measurement method for the exact style and shoe last, including foot-length guidance, width and tolerances. Request samples in representative sizes and evaluate fit for the intended market. Size labels and conversion charts alone do not guarantee a consistent fit across factories or styles.
What should I check on a shoe sample?
Review the upper, lining, insole, sole material, stitching, adhesive finish, pair matching, size and packaging against an agreed specification. Test fit and relevant performance for the intended use with a qualified party when necessary. Record the approved sample and its version so it can be compared with the bulk order.
Can I add my own logo or create a private-label shoe?
Ask whether your authorised artwork can be applied to an existing style or if a new last, mould or other tooling is needed. Agree artwork, materials, packaging, setup and sample charges, ownership of any tooling and minimum quantities before approval. Obtain a physical production-intent sample when feasible.
How do I compare the real cost of wholesale shoes from China?
Compare written quotes for the same style, materials, size curve, quantity and named delivery term. Separate the price per pair from samples, tooling, packaging, inspection, sourcing fees, freight, insurance, clearance, duties and destination delivery as applicable. Ask which costs are included and verify the current import charges for your product and country.
How long do samples, bulk production and shipping take?
Request separate estimates for stock confirmation or sample making, revisions, production, inspection and transport. Confirm when each stage starts, whether materials and packaging are available, the shipping route and holiday closures. Timeframes differ by project and supplier; request a written schedule for the actual order.
What import documents, labelling and tests do shoes need?
Requirements depend on the destination, footwear construction, materials, intended wearer and use. Ask the importer, customs broker or qualified laboratory to confirm the classification, origin marking, product-specific testing and documents before ordering. For the US, Customs and Border Protection advises that classification and origin marking are important; do not assume one certificate or duty rate applies to every shoe.
What happens if the bulk shoes differ from the approved sample?
Before paying, agree defect categories, inspection method, acceptance limits, deadlines, responsibilities and remedies in writing. Check a production lot against the approved sample, size chart, packaging and order quantities. Document defects and affected pairs, request corrective action and agree whether reinspection, replacement or a claim is appropriate; release remains subject to the buyer’s decision and agreement.
